Maybe You're Not Okay

We are all in the gutter, but some of us are looking at the stars. -Oscar Wilde

The other day I was hanging out and eating with friends. We were discussing some of our personal challenges. Finally, one of my friends said, “I know we are all okay, but…”

I turned to her and said, “Actually, we aren’t okay, we are just determined to have fun anyways.”

One of the things I love about my friends is that regardless of what is taking place in our lives, we are determined to enjoy life together and have fun.

On the impersonal self level, it is true that we are all fine. When I worked with my spiritual teacher, John-Roger, many people would desperately try to reach him physically when they were having a crisis. Sometimes they would reach him immediately, and sometimes it took longer for him to respond on the physical (and often the “big” crisis was over by then). Though he was always available spiritually and often physically for those he worked with, his life wasn’t determined by others’ catastrophes, and he would often say “there are no emergencies in Spirit.”

In terms of the greater consciousness, everything is truly perfect. It is so amazing how perfectly these levels were designed for God to experience itself through each one of us, and how perfectly this earth is designed for everyone to work their karma and learn their lessons.

That being said, on a personal self level, sometimes we are not okay. It is in this level that we must maintain our positive focus to keep a light attitude.
