Here is a recent question I received:
How can I better let go of my distress about the negativity happening in the world (wars-politics-famine Etc.) and stop feeling helpless to do anything other than send the Light
What I hear with that question is “how can I better let go of my distress about the negativity I SEE happening in the world”. There is so much good that is going on in the the world today and everyday. There is so much positive taking place. There is so much love, laughter, and friendship being shared in the world. Look at a baby or small child and you will see a world of goodness, of brightness, in their eyes. Of course, that doesn’t usually make the news.
One of the core principles that I live by is: “take care of yourself first, so you can help take care of others.”
With that in mind, the first thing you can do if you’re distressed about war is to not participate in, support, or watch war. The first thing you can do about the politicians that bother you is to not depend on them. The first thing you can do if you are concerned about famine is grow food in your garden and support ecological farming for bio-diversity. The first thing you can do about “Etc” is to keep going.
In other words, take care of yourself first…so you can help take care of others. Do what you can do. If your house isn’t in order, then stop worrying about “the world”. If everyone started ensuring their part of the world was in order to the best of their ability, the aggregate change would be substantial.
The problem is what you are looking at. If the news makes you distressed, stop looking at the news! Or look at different news. You already said you feel helpless, which means you can’t do anything about it. So why look at it if all you do is get distressed and create more negativity surrounding it? You aren’t helping anyone when you are just creating more distress in your life.
If you are going to look at the news, for your own sake and the sake of others, don’t believe anything you see.
Here’s a radical idea for you:
Instead of watching or reading the news, start making the news.
Since you’re the one making it, make it good. Make the news good in your home. Make the news good in your your community, in your family, with your friends.
If you start making the news good in your life, then you might end up in a position to make the news good on a larger scale. Even if you don’t, your life will be so much more abundant with blessings, and that is good news.
