In my coaching work, often clients will discuss with me what they don’t want in their life. I redirect their vision to what they want instead. It’s easy and natural to say what you don’t want, but then you are focusing on what you don’t want, which funny enough attracts that to you.
The mind is such a wonderful tool when used properly, but it is inferior to and the enemy of your spiritual self.
I remember very early on in my living with my teacher, he would say to me in so many words:
“Nat, the difference between you and me is that when you think something, you think it is so; whereas when I think something, I think that I thought it.”
As an aspect of the ego, the mind wants to worship itself, and likes nothing more than for others to worship it. “Look how smart and right my mind is.” The mind can be “right” in its domain, and yet not be in alignment with a higher truth. It is so very clever.
We can see this worship of the mind and intellectual ideas in our world today. Often, when attempting to implement these ideas into the physical world reality, the thinking that made so much sense in smart peoples’ minds just doesn’t work like they thought. There are greater forces than those of the mind/ego at play here.
It is important to remember that there are experiences and realities beyond the mental level, and beyond the mind’s ability to comprehend because they are just not in the level of the mind.
With proper training and direction, the mind can be utilized in your life in beautiful ways towards your greater expansion and growth. The mind likes repetition, and can go into repetitive patterns that you realize are no longer serving you. It can take time and focus to redirect the mind, and it is a constant process.
What you focus on, you move towards, and will become. So keep your eyes towards the Light. What you focus on becomes your god, so focus on what you want more of. Focus on those things that are uplifting, and they will uplift you.
There are many tools to working with the mind, and training your mind. Remember that what you behold, you can become, so win in your fantasies and fantasize your winning.
I often encourage my clients to write, draw, or put together in some outer form, an ideal scene that they can look at and focus upon, always asking for the highest good.
Tell yourself what you want to hear. Write those words down that are uplifting and put them where you will look at them every day. When working with the mind, putting your thoughts in a format that is material and can be looked at by you (such as writing them down), is really helpful. There are so many methods and techniques for working with the mind, but understanding these simple principles can be helpful.
Observing the mind is one of the most effective ways of “dealing with” a mind that won’t leave you alone. Just observe. Thoughts are just thoughts. You don’t have to do anything with them. Just observe them. You don’t have to run off and do the next thing your mind tells you to do, just observe. It is very simple. Rather than believing anything your mind tells you, just observe.
Don’t believe, just be. When you are in that state of being, love and joy naturally come forward from within you.
You can touch into that quality of the spiritual heart, of loving, and just place that with the mind and with the thoughts you are thinking. You can envision the light going into this level, so that your thoughts can rise to God.
Thoughts are just conditioned energy. Allow them to unwind into the unconditioned energy they originated from. This is done through the higher consciousness, through the spiritual Traveler, and through loving.
Spiritual exercises, chanting the mantras, the tones of the Soul is one of the most effective ways to focus the mind so you can get to the awareness that is beyond the mind. The chanting (inwardly or outwardly) keeps the mind busy. You hold the mind steady on a point of focus. On the third eye. On the tone. And that vibration, which is the current of Sound direct from the Original Source, will lift the vibrations of the thinking patterns, the matrixes of mental energy, the thought forms, into the higher vibrations. It will transform what is of a bound nature into its natural, free state.
Tapping into the Spirit, that energy that is beyond thought, in a meaningful way can deliver you from eons of karma. It dissipates in this energy. It cleanses the consciousness from all of the junk we pick up along the way in these psychic/material worlds. A fraction of a second in this awareness is eternity because it is beyond the reference of time. It is the eternal now.
The knock-on effects of holding this focus is a more disciplined mind, which translates to a more productive and directed life. This is the practicality of the the Bible verse: “So above all, constantly seek God’s kingdom and his righteousness, then all these less important things will be given to you abundantly.”
Take a little time each day to touch into the sound current, the audible stream of God, the higher vibrations beyond the denser vibrations, the pure energy of Spirit. Allow yourself to move beyond the mind through focusing the mind. It’s amazing the blessings that will provide you.
